Coffee and Cellulite
About Coffee
Coffee mainly has a popular ingredient known as caffeine. Caffeine, on the other hand, is found in almost all anti-cellulite creams. Why? It’s because caffeine is considered as an active natural diuretic that is regarded to improve the disappearance by removing toxin, fat and dead skin cell build-up inside the body. It also increases the flow of blood inside the body. This makes caffeine a popular choice for being an ingredient in several popular anti-cellulite creams. Given that caffeine has properties to eliminate cellulite, the main question still stands: Is coffee the best and cheapest anti-cellulite solution?
Giving answers to this is not simple. There are numerous objections and contradictions about coffee being a friend or a foe in the field of cellulite treatment.
How Coffee Increases Cellulite
According to experts, there are studies claiming that coffee not only increases cellulite appearance but also worsen its presence. Drinking one to three cups of coffee a day does little or no effect with regards to contributing to cellulite appearance. However, if one goes beyond the recommended daily requirements, having the risk of blocking lymphatic circulation is high. This is because, as a potent diuretic, coffee has the capacity to dehydrate the cells of the skin which impedes to the normal circulation of blood. Once the skin cells get dehydrated, the fluid which brings about toxins get stranded on particular areas of the body specifically in between cells due to the fact that water is absent to flush these toxins away. This leads to lumpy, hard deposits which causes the cottage cheese appearance on your body.
With this effect, how come coffee is basically linked to cellulite and cosmetic companies even use it as a basic ingredient in their anti-cellulite products?
The answer lies on the application of caffeine. When caffeine is ingested, it has a different effect as to applied caffeine. When externally applied, caffeine is said to reduce fat cells that lies underneath the skin which then increases the flow of blood on that area and washing away toxins. Coffee acts as a gentle and effective exfoliant.
